I am honoured to present my election statement to the Channel Islands Co-operative Society’s (Coop) membership and board. I believe my contribution will benefit the organisation in three areas – business experience, enhancing our goods and services, and future-proofing the organisation.
As a Chartered Financial Analyst, management consultant, entrepreneur and insurance professional by trade, I have worked in financial services for 28 years and held board positions in the UK and Guernsey. My activities include overseeing and reviewing risk, compliance, operations and consumer financial products. I also bring proven independence, governance proficiency, and executive decision-making skills from my three independent non-executive director (iNED) roles on insurance companies’ boards.
Regarding the Coop’s critical role providing groceries, health and critical services, I bring experience working with food, consumer healthcare, pharmaceutical and other manufacturers / service companies. My professional experience includes overseeing risk management, compliance, project recall, supply chain, crisis response, product/public liability, loss control engineering, and business interruption/continuity topics. By leveraging these insights, the Coop will be able to expand strategies and disciplines for the Society and its members, drive growth in markets that are currently not pursued, and provide consumer services similar to UK peer organisations (for example, the UK Coop’s insurance offerings).
As a parent and an active community volunteer, the Coop’s wide-reaching appeal and values for community development are close to my heart and align with my roles with the 2nd Jersey Scout Group, Vice-Chair of the IoD’s Professional Development Committee and other community engagement. In line with Coop’s purpose, values and principles, I want to leverage this experience to explore how the Coop can further enhance the islands’ quality-of-life, develop digital-forward skills, environmental sustainability and economic security for the next generation.
In terms of vision, I see concrete and actionable ways that the Coop can further support members and build on its strengths. For example, there is scope to expand services (e.g. insurance) and range of goods in the same way that peer UK organisations do. Another factor for future-proofing the Society will be adopting recent technology and embedding the organisation into the Bailiwicks’ digital ecosystem. With business experience in both Bailiwicks, with new ventures, and my company’s engagement with the Digital Jersey, I can work with relevant teams to explore how technology can enhance membership as well as supporting local communities and build local capabilities on both islands.
Thank you for considering my candidacy. I am excited and committed to driving forward the Mission of the Coop.
